Rethink market intelligence…
… in the new era of social media participation, was the message that Johanna Danielsson (Director Travel & Tourism) and Tomas Larsson (Analyst) of Kairos Future conveyed to heads of market intelligence at the European Travel Commission summit in Budapest on February 3. The workshop introduced an innovative new approach developed by Kairos Future to analyze the vast new body of information that consumers and travelers make available on forums and blogs across the Internet.
The 40 or so representatives of national travel and tourism boards from all over Europe worked in teams to draw conclusions from data extracted from millions of blog posts on travelling in Europe. The various types of Chinese travelers to Europe were paid particular interest to. Shown below is the general image of Europe as expressed by tens of thousands of Chinese bloggers. Each group of words represents the perspective a specific Chinese interest group or “tribe”.
